Why has France banned sales of Apple's iPhone 12?

Following tests, France's radiation watchdog has prohibited the sale of Apple's  iPhone 12.

The Agence Nationale des Frequences (ANFR) said on Tuesday that the model's Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) - a measure of the rate at which radiofrequency energy is absorbed by the body - had been improved.

Jean-Noel Barrot, France's junior minister for the digital economy, told newspaper Le Parisien a software update could fix the problem

Apple denies the watchdog's findings, claiming that the iPhone 12 has been validated by various international organisations as meeting global radiation guidelines.

WHAT EXACTLY IS SAR? The term "Standard Absorption Rate" refers to the amount of energy absorbed by the body from any source of radiation. It's measured in watts per kilogramme of body weight.
