WhatsApp denies report that explores ads in chat app

Teams at Meta have been debating whether to display advertisements in contact list discussions on the WhatsApp chat screen, but no decisions have been taken as of yet.

On Friday, WhatsApp's top executive refuted a Financial Times article that said the Meta Platforms owned messaging platform was looking into advertising as a way to increase revenue.

Meta is also deliberating whether to charge a subscription fee to use the app ad-free

FT also said many company insiders were against the move. Meta did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment

According to the story, which cited three people with knowledge of the situation, Meta is reportedly debating whether to charge a monthly fee to use the app without advertisements.
